The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission recently recognized the work of the University of Louisiana at Monroe Police Department and one of its officers with dual awards in Baton Rouge.

Corporal Jackson Brackett was recognized along with other law enforcement officers from across Louisiana at the Second Annual LHSC awards luncheon at the Crowne Plaza. The awards recognized outstanding officers for continued efforts to remove impaired drivers from state highways.

Brackett was honored with a commemorative plaque/shadow box medal display for his exemplary enforcement of driving while impaired laws. He was recognized as the top enforcement officer employed by a university police agency in Louisiana.

Chief Ellerman recognized the contribution by the Louisiana State Police鈥檚 Applied Technology for the implementation of 香港六合彩开奖直播PD鈥檚 Intoxilyzer 5000 machine, which is instrumental in providing a safe and convenient environment for testing of impaired drivers. The facility is located at 香港六合彩开奖直播 and is accessible not only to 香港六合彩开奖直播PD, but to any area law enforcement agency for testing.

Each year impaired driving kills more than 400 people in Louisiana and is a contributing factor in almost half of the traffic crashes and in the commission of other crimes, according to state highway commissioners.
