香港六合彩开奖直播 to host the spring semester鈥檚 first 鈥淭raveling Scholar鈥 March 16

The University of Louisiana at Monroe will host Dr. Kristan Poirot as part of the 鈥淭raveling Scholars鈥 series, sponsored by the Department of Communication and the Speech and Debate Forum, from 6-8 p.m. on March 16 in Stubbs 100.

Poirot is an assistant professor of both communication and gender studies at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where she teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses on feminist history and theory, rhetorical criticism, social movements and sexual politics.

Poirot will present a lecture titled 鈥淓ngaging Community History: Reflections on Women in Aggieland,鈥 which engages the rhetorical history of womanhood at TAMU by focusing on the controversy of women鈥檚 place in 鈥淎ggieland鈥 (a nickname for TAMU). Poirot ties this into a discussion about how her role as a scholar is intertwined with her experiences as a teacher, mother, woman and member of her community.

Poitot鈥檚 research interests focus on the history of feminist rhetoric and contemporary feminist theory. Her work has appeared in several scholarly journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Speech, Women鈥檚 Studies in Communication and the Journal of Health Communication. She has also been recognized by the Organization for Research on Women in Communication and the National Communication Association for her research.

Poirot is the first of three 鈥渢raveling scholars鈥 to participate in this semester鈥檚 series. Communication faculty member Dr. Lesli Pace is responsible for creating and coordinating the speaking events. For more information contact her at 318-342-1165 or pace@ulm.edu.
