University of Louisiana at Monroe sophomore Lynette Gregory, a political science major from Bastrop, received glowing reviews following her successful completion of the Louisiana Center for Women and Government Internship Program during the Spring 2009 semester.

The primary component of Gregory鈥檚 internship involved full-time work in Baton Rouge, and a seminar class each Friday focusing on state government and various issues of political and social concern to women.

鈥淪he was considered a vital part of the operations of her office, and in my class, was one of the most outstanding students to come through the program,鈥 said Glenn J. Antizzo, LCWG Internship Director at Nicholls State University.

Gregory鈥檚 internship entailed numerous 鈥渞eal-world鈥 opportunities, including the chance to create an entirely new Web site for the office and efforts to ensure 100 percent participation in web-based reporting through intranet technology.

Gregory also researched and collaborated on sources of federal and state grant funding, and delved into the variety of women鈥檚 issues facing Louisiana.

鈥淭he internship was a highlight of my college career,鈥 said Gregory.

鈥淚 learned far more in a semester living and working in Baton Rouge, than I thought one could absorb in such a short period of time. I will be forever grateful to my professors for recommending me and for their proactive commitment to my education."

鈥淭his is but one of the fantastic opportunities available to our political science majors,鈥 said Kevin Unter, Department Head, Gerontology, Sociology, and Political Science. 鈥淎ll of her professors here in our department are very proud of her and we look forward to seeing her perform at this level over the rest of her academic career.鈥
