The National Cancer Institute recently awarded a $720,000 grant to support the research of a University of Louisiana at Monroe endowed professor of pharmacology.

The award gives Professor Girish Shah, Ph.D., an additional five-year funding period in which to perform his research of calcitonin in prostate growth and neoplasia, and is expected to exceed one million dollars by August 2014.

鈥淭he research will help us understand why this cancer spreads to other organs and increase the treatment options for the disease,鈥� said Shah.
